This is a place of battles including the invasion of French (for the reason of catholic suppression) in October 1866. This historical relics remind us of our ancestor's suffering and struggling hardship in the defensive history of Goryeo and Joseon dynasties.

Jeondeung Temple This oldest temple built in A.D. 381, the 11th year of Kong Sosurim of Goguryeo dynasty. Many cultural assets of Buddhism have been preserved in this temple.

Deokjin Fortress Deokjin fortress is the fortress which was constructed in 1656 during the reign of King Hyojong of Joseon dynasty. In the area of Deokjinjin the largest battery of all cannons in Ganghwado and Deokjin outpost were installed there and a warning monument stands along the seashore giving a notice of warning message to foreign vessels not allowed to access to island. There were fifteen cannons mounted within Namjang battery in those days but only seven cannons were available for this display at present.
